The shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is coming to the new Switch 2 console on October 23, 2026, in both digital and physical formats. However, there is disappointing news for physical media enthusiasts: the boxed version of the game will not include a cartridge.
Just a box with a download code
As revealed, the physical edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 for Switch 2 will ship in a "code-in-box" format. This means that inside the plastic case, buyers will only find a paper slip with a digital code for activation in the Nintendo eShop.
Story campaign and multiplayer details
The plot of Modern Warfare 4 centers around a rapid escalation of global conflict on the Korean Peninsula. Players will take on the role of Private Park, a young South Korean soldier caught in the midst of a full-scale invasion. Meanwhile, Captain Price operates off the grid, attempting to stop a catastrophic threat. The campaign's geography will cover New York, Paris, Mumbai, and trench warfare in Korea.
Multiplayer mode will offer a range of updates and features:
- Full crossplay and cross-progression across all platforms;
- Optional gyro/mouse controls using the new Joy-Con 2;
- The innovative Ballistic Authority ballistics system;
- 12 base maps at launch and the dynamic Kill Block arena with over 500 layout variations.
