Rumors: Assassin’s Creed May Head to Ancient Rome

According to new rumors, Ubisoft is developing an Assassin’s Creed game codenamed Mars set in Ancient Rome, as well as a mobile project named Pocket set in Jerusalem.

According to recent leaks, Ubisoft is working on two new games in the Assassin’s Creed universe, with one of them potentially set in the long-awaited setting of Ancient Rome.

Return to Rome: Codename Mars

The information was shared by insider and YouTuber Xj0nathan, who claims that the project is codenamed Mars. According to his information, sources with access to Ubisoft's internal systems confirm the development, and the game's setting may be closely linked to an upcoming TV series based on the franchise.

The series has already visited Rome in Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood (2010), but back then the city was depicted during the Renaissance. If the rumors about Mars are confirmed, players will finally be able to explore the majestic ancient capital. However, a full release shouldn't be expected anytime soon—analysts suggest that the game is unlikely to be released before 2029–2030.

Mobile Spin-off Codename Pocket

The second project featured in the leaks under the codename Pocket is a mobile game:

  • Setting: Jerusalem;
  • Gameplay: resembles the Mastery Challenges from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla;
  • Visual style: close to the recent Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown;
  • Plot: a character named Miriam will act as the protagonist's mentor.

The publication Insider Gaming also confirmed the existence of these codenames, noting that the studio's internal plans underwent changes following reshuffles in the franchise's leadership. There are currently no official comments from Ubisoft regarding these rumors.
