Incredible Rescue via an Online Game
In the United States, a teenager who had been missing for over 17 months was found and rescued thanks to a chance encounter in the popular multiplayer game Among Us.
The girl, who disappeared in Utah in May 2025 at the age of 15, began communicating with another teenager in the game in October 2026. Later, they moved to another messaging app, where the girl revealed her real identity and stated that she was being held against her will in a house in Oregon. She only had internet access via Wi-Fi on a phone given to her that lacked cellular service.
Law Enforcement Intervention
After receiving the information, the other teenager immediately told their parents, who contacted the FBI on November 1. Agents listened in on a video call between the teenager's mother and the missing girl, and conducted a rescue operation that same day. The girl is now 17 years old and is safe.
The suspect, 39-year-old Adam Hunter Harmel, was detained during a traffic stop. According to the Utah County Attorney's Office, he met the minor online and subsequently took her to his residence in Oregon. The man has been charged with kidnapping to commit a sexual offense.
