Release of 007 First Light on Switch 2 Delayed to March 2027

The release of the action-adventure game 007 First Light by IO Interactive for the Switch 2 platform has been officially delayed to March 2027.

Studio IO Interactive, in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, has officially shared new details regarding its ambitious spy project 007 First Light. The game will tell a brand-new, original origin story of a young James Bond and is being developed for the next-generation platform — Switch 2.

The Path to Becoming Agent 007

In 007 First Light, players will take control of a 26-year-old Royal Navy aircrew member recruited into the ranks of MI6. The project will combine IO Interactive's signature stealth mechanics with dynamic third-person action.

  • Playstyle flexibility: overcome obstacles using brute force, cunning, or charm.
  • Familiar and new faces: meet classic characters (M, Q, Moneypenny) alongside Bond's mentor John Greenway and the mysterious Isola.
  • Gadgets and skills: players will be able to actively use the latest technological inventions from Q's lab.

Release Delay for the Switch 2 Version

Originally planned for 2026, the developers announced a necessary delay of the Switch 2 version to March 2027.

According to IO Interactive representatives, the additional time is needed to polish the game's performance and quality on the new hybrid console as thoroughly as possible. Meanwhile, the developers noted that they are pleased with the positive player feedback following Gamescom and are preparing to showcase a demo version at the Tokyo Game Show.
