A new project from Nippon Ichi Software, the creators of the Disgaea and Phantom Brave series, is showing incredible commercial results in Japan. The game Village in the Shade (known in the Japanese region as Honogurashi no Niwa) has crossed the milestone of 200,000 copies sold in the domestic market alone.
Massive Success for a New IP
Previously, the publisher reported surpassing 100,000 digital and physical copies combined in just the first 5 days following release. Now, sales of the new franchise have doubled, marking an outstanding result for an entirely new title.
For Western audiences, the game will be published by NIS America this fall on the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 hybrid consoles.
A Cozy Farm with Creepy Mysteries
Village in the Shade is set in the fictional Japanese mountain village of Kagatsu. The game combines hand-drawn graphics, a meditative farming simulator, and elements of mystery and horror. Players will have to tend to crops, decorate their homes, and interact with local residents.
However, to survive in this seemingly cozy place, strict rules must be followed:
- Do not talk to strangers.
- Do not attempt to leave the boundaries of the settlement.
- Under no circumstances go outside at night.
Whether the Western release can replicate the success of the Japanese launch on Switch and Switch 2 consoles will be revealed in the coming months.
