Ubisoft is continuing a large-scale internal restructuring. According to insider reports, the publisher plans to close the Finnish studio RedLynx, known primarily for the popular Trials series (notably Trials Rising on Nintendo Switch), as well as cut about 70 employees at its Ubisoft Singapore division.
Why is RedLynx being closed?
As it became known, the RedLynx studio currently had no active new project, and management deemed its further maintenance financially unfeasible. Founded back in 2000 in Helsinki and acquired by Ubisoft in 2011, the studio, besides the Trials series, also participated in the development of mobile games such as South Park: Phone Destroyer and assisted other company divisions.
Layoffs at Ubisoft Singapore
In addition to the closure of RedLynx, the optimization also affected Ubisoft's Singapore studio, which was once responsible for the naval action game Skull and Bones:
- About 70 specialists were hit by the wave of layoffs in Singapore.
- The French publisher is trying to reduce operating costs amid a difficult financial period and a revision of its upcoming release lineup.
Ubisoft has not yet officially commented on the details of severance pay for the dismissed employees, but this is another alarming sign in a series of optimizations within the European giant.
