If you were worried that gaming hardware prices were already too high, a new round of US trade restrictions could worsen the market situation even further. The Donald Trump administration is considering bringing back large-scale tariffs on semiconductor products and consumer electronics.
Not only chips, but also consoles under threat
According to insider reports, new customs duties could be imposed not only on individual silicon components, but also on finished products that use them. In particular, potential tariffs may cover:
- Gaming consoles;
- Laptops and pre-built PCs;
- Server equipment and data centers.
If these measures are implemented, hardware manufacturers will almost certainly be forced to pass on the additional costs to end consumers, triggering another price hike for current- and next-generation consoles.
