Love Turned into a Nightmare
During the Future Games Show presentation, the studio Genie Boy Games announced its new project — Sweetheart. It is a story-driven first-person psychological horror that the developers describe as a "breakup simulator." The game will be released on Nintendo Switch in 2027.
Plot and Gameplay Features
The story focuses on Gabe and his girlfriend Skylar Maxine — a world-famous pop star with whom he has been together since the age of 12. When, after 15 years of a toxic relationship, Gabe decides to leave, Skylar's psyche breaks down, transforming their luxurious Hollywood Hills mansion into a surreal labyrinth of horror.
Key features of the project:
- Surreal horror: warping of space and Skylar herself, inspired by a blend of Mouthwashing, La La Land, and Midsommar;
- Stealth and survival: exploring shifting rooms, finding hiding spots, and attempting to survive during the monster's emotional onslaught;
- Deep drama: highlighting issues of mental health disorders, toxic dependency, and the dark side of early fame for 2000s-era pop stars.
