Eight is a magic number
This week officially marks eight years since the birth of the Octopath Traveler series. The original game was released on Nintendo Switch in July 2018 and has since received both a prequel and a full-fledged sequel. Celebrating an eighth anniversary might seem unusual for other games, but for Octopath Traveler, this number has a special meaning.
On this occasion, Square Enix has shared a brand new commemorative video. The clip offers a look back at the released games of the franchise accompanied by a wonderful soundtrack.
Successes and the future of the franchise
A few months ago, total sales of all games in the series reached the mark of 7 million sold copies. It is expected that the universe will continue to expand. The latest installment of the franchise, Octopath Traveler 0, is already available on Switch and Switch 2, offering players:
- An epic saga of restoration and retribution for the divine rings in the kingdom of Orsterra.
- Signature HD-2D graphics combining retro pixel art and modern 3D CG technologies.
- The Path Actions system for interacting with characters.
- The classic Break and Boost combat system, which can change the course of battle.
- The ability to create your own protagonist and rebuild a ruined hometown.
Update: Square Enix has also released an English-language version of this commemorative video so that fans from all over the world can join the celebration.
