Classic Survival Horror in a Japanese School
Publisher Serafini Productions, together with Chilean indie studio Time Hunters, has officially unveiled Signal Veil, a third-person psychological horror game set in the mysterious and eerie hallways of Nishikawa High School.
The project is being developed for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store). An exact release date has not yet been announced, but the developers have already released the first trailer, attracting the attention of old-school horror fans.
A Mysterious Phone and Otherworldly Entities
The protagonist is teenager Aki Mizuno, whose mother disappears without a trace, leaving behind only one clue: an old mobile phone capable of interacting with unseen spirits. A chain of strange disappearances unfolds at Nishikawa School, and Aki will have to reconstruct the past hidden behind false memories.
The creators drew inspiration from classic games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill, as well as the atmosphere of iconic 90s horror anime. Key gameplay features include:
- Cursed mobile phone: reacts to otherworldly entities with vibrations and screen static, while the camera flash allows players to stun enemies and reveal hidden traces.
- Ritual combat: destroying monsters requires a specific sequence of actions — detection, provocation, stunning, exposing the entity, and purification.
- Severe resource scarcity: first aid kits, mystical weapons, and ammunition are strictly limited, placing the emphasis on tactics.
- Sanity system and fixed camera: a drop in sanity levels alters the environment, while cinematic fixed camera angles create a constant sense of tension.
