A Special Version for Young Trainers
Earlier this year, the game Pokémon Champions for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 received a higher age rating in Germany and Brazil due to specific requirements of local rating boards. To address this issue and allow young players to participate in competitions, a special edition was created — Pokémon Champions Junior.
The game's release on the Nintendo eShop for Germany and Brazil has been confirmed for September 9, 2026.
Differences in the Junior Version and Competitive Rules
The Pokémon Champions Junior version features a lower age rating and lacks certain features of the original:
- No in-game purchases (microtransactions).
- The trial Pokémon recruitment mechanic has been removed.
- Certain in-game items have been removed.
Otherwise, it is a full game that is completely compatible with the standard version of Pokémon Champions.
Starting with the Championship Series 2027 season, VGC players under 12 in Germany and under 14 in Brazil will be required to play in tournaments exclusively using the Pokémon Champions Junior version. Older participants will be free to use the standard edition.
