Prices for physical copies of Metroid Dread soar following Metroid Ravenous announcement

Physical copies of Metroid Dread have sharply risen in price on the secondary market to $100 following the announcement of the series' new entry, Metroid Ravenous.

Hype around the Metroid series following new announcement

Following the recent announcement of Metroid Ravenous, interest in the entire Samus Aran franchise skyrocketed. Seeing the return of the legendary bounty hunter at the latest Nintendo Direct, many players decided to catch up and check out previous installments in the series.

Metroid Dread attracted the most attention as the latest 2D installment to date, being visually and dynamically closest to the newly announced project. However, such a surge in interest led to unexpected consequences for collectors.

Price surge for cartridges

If you planned to purchase a physical edition of Metroid Dread on the secondary market, you will have to face significantly inflated prices:

  • Prices for used and sealed physical copies on eBay and other platforms have jumped to around $100.
  • The situation is complicated by the fact that the game's print run is currently practically sold out and cartridges are no longer actively printed in large quantities.
  • Although Nintendo games tend to increase in value over time, such a rapid price rise soon after release happens rarely.

Players hope that Nintendo will take notice of the demand and release an additional print run of physical copies to stabilize cartridge prices before the release of the new installment.
