Atlus plans to create Persona 1 and Persona 2 remakes in the future

The Persona series producer hinted at future remakes of Persona 1 and 2 to preserve classic Atlus games on modern platforms.

Kazuhisa Wada, producer of the cult JRPG series Persona, confirmed that Atlus is considering creating full remakes of the franchise's earliest installments — Persona 1 and the Persona 2 duology.

Preserving Atlus' cultural heritage

Following the successful release of Persona 3 Reload and active preparations for the launch of Persona 4 Revival, the developers do not intend to stop updating classics. In an interview with Rock Paper Shotgun, the series producer noted that Atlus views creating remasters and remakes as a form of video game cultural preservation.

Wada explained that the studio feels it is their duty not to let early games get lost to time and to make them available for modern platforms:

  • The first and second installments are the only numbered games in the franchise that currently cannot be officially purchased on modern consoles;
  • The team aims to adapt the brand's early heritage to the standards of the modern generation of players;
  • Remakes of Persona 1 and Persona 2 are something the studio will "probably eventually realize."

What lies ahead for fans?

Although the studio's upcoming releases remain the current priority, management's interest in bringing back the classics gives fans great hope to see the origins of the beloved series again in modern audiovisual execution.
