Orbitals game director Jakob Lundgren recently shed light on the studio's decision to abandon the single-player campaign and focus entirely on the multiplayer experience.
Why abandon single-player?
Interestingly, in the very early stages of development, the game actually supported a single-player mode. However, this idea was eventually completely abandoned. In his interview with MinnMax, Lundgren explained that the Shapefarm studio needed to fully commit to multiplayer.
- The developers decided to focus all their efforts in one direction.
- Abandoning single-player allowed them to improve the balance and overall quality of the multiplayer mechanics.
According to the game director, having a single-player option would simply have scattered the team's resources, preventing them from realizing the full potential of the project.
