The Japanese role-playing game Oni Zero: Fukkatsu, which was released on the original PlayStation back in 2001 and was never officially released outside of Japan, is getting a second life on the Nintendo Switch hybrid console.
A Second Chance for a PS1 Classic
Studio Mebius has confirmed the development of the Oni Zero: Revival project — a full reboot of the classic JRPG. Moreover, a playable demo of the game for Switch will be presented at Tokyo Game Show 2026 at the Konami booth. The presence of an English-language page hints at plans for a worldwide release and official localization.
The official announcement with the first details is expected as early as next week.
Gameplay Features
The original Oni Zero is made in the classic style of Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. Key mechanics include:
- Elemental Affinities: characters possess different elements, which directly affects their combat effectiveness.
- Special Transformations: as they progress, heroes unlock unique transformation attacks.
- Spirit System: players can find and enlist various spirits to aid them on their journey.
