Releases of collectible items from the Pokémon franchise always generate immense hype, but sometimes the desire to get a coveted set crosses all reasonable boundaries. In the US, the launch of the Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration Figure Collection ended with the arrest of one fan.
A child holding a spot in line at 2 AM
35-year-old John-Michael Dooley decided to purchase the new release at a Target store, where lines began forming as early as midnight. Instead of waiting himself, the man left his 6-year-old daughter to hold his place, giving her a pillow and a blanket, while he drove home at around 1:00 AM.
Around 2:30 AM, police arrived following a call from other shoppers and passersby who noticed a young child alone in line outside on the street. The father returned an hour and a half later and was immediately detained by law enforcement.
Charges and consequences
The man was officially charged with child neglect and endangering her safety. The father provided no clear explanation for his actions to the police.
