The Castlevania franchise is celebrating its 40th anniversary, and for the first time in a long while, fans of the iconic vampire saga have plenty of reasons to rejoice. Next month marks the release of the long-awaited Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse — the series' first mainline game in over 12 years.
Celebratory Anniversary and Hidden Hints
In honor of the anniversary, Konami released a special trailer that takes players through the entire history of the series: from the original 1986 game for the Famicom/NES to upcoming releases. Additionally, the original classic will temporarily be available for free on mobile devices.
However, what caught the community's attention most was not so much the look back into the past, but a hidden teaser. Attentive fans spotted clear hints in the video pointing to a future collection dedicated to 3D entries in the Castlevania series, which were previously left out of earlier retro collections.
What Could Be Included in the 3D Collection?
If fans' speculations are confirmed, players may finally get modern re-releases of titles such as:
- Castlevania 64 and Legacy of Darkness (Nintendo 64);
- Lament of Innocence (PlayStation 2);
- Curse of Darkness (PlayStation 2 / Xbox).
Konami has not yet officially announced the new collection, but the company's activity surrounding the anniversary gives great hope to owners of modern platforms, particularly the Nintendo Switch lineup.
