Legendary creator of Deus Ex and Epic Mickey announces retirement
Video game industry veteran Warren Spector, best known for cult projects Deus Ex, System Shock, Thief, as well as the platformer Epic Mickey for Nintendo Wii, has announced the end of his career as a developer.
According to Spector, creating games has stopped bringing him as much joy as it used to. Although he noted that concepts for three games he would like to make still remain in his head, the developer feels that he has accomplished all the main goals of his creative journey.
The game designer's legacy
Warren Spector made a colossal contribution to the development of the immersive sim genre and the entire gaming industry. Among his notable achievements:
- Shaping the philosophy of player freedom of choice in Deus Ex;
- Developing the iconic Ultima and System Shock franchises;
- Creating the Disney Epic Mickey dilogy specifically for fans of interactive adventures on Nintendo platforms.
