Publisher Vault Comics has joined forces with the developers from Red Hook Studios to create a series of official graphic novels based on the popular gaming franchise Darkest Dungeon.
Return to a grim world
The original Darkest Dungeon, which debuted in 2016, is a gothic turn-based RPG with roguelike elements. The game gained recognition thanks to its gameplay, deep story, and ruthless difficulty, becoming one of the most beloved indie games of the last decade. The new comic will become an official and canonical addition to the existing game universe.
The creative team
Recognized masters of their craft are working on the creation of the illustrated story:
- Writer: John Lees, known for the grim horror comics The Nasty and Hotell.
- Artist: Maan House, who previously worked on a comic based on Dark Souls.
- Consultant: Chris Bourassa, co-founder of Red Hook Studios and creative director of the game.

According to Chris Bourassa, the game Darkest Dungeon was created with a great love for comics, and from day one he dreamed of seeing his creation on paper pages. The new graphic novel will reveal unknown details and add intriguing mysteries to the foundation of the game's mythology, which will be interesting for both series veterans and newcomers.
The comic launch campaign will soon start on the BackerKit platform. Registration for early access is already open, and the developers promise to reveal more details later.
