Retro Sonic Cartridges from iam8bit: Stunning Look for $100

Collector's Reissue of Sonic Classics from iam8bit

iam8bit has released a new line of collectible retro cartridges, the Sonic Legacy Cartridge Collection, for the original Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) console. The series includes the iconic platformers Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Each cartridge is crafted to authentic standards and comes in a premium box with a detailed instruction booklet and a poster. However, the main topic of discussion among fans has been the price: each cartridge costs $99.99.

Are the Cartridges Worth the Money?

For the average player who simply wants to enjoy the adventures of the blue hedgehog, such a purchase is unlikely to be justified, given the availability of digital reissues and collections like Sonic Origins Plus on modern platforms, including the Nintendo Switch.

However, the release is aimed primarily at dedicated retro collectors:

• Original form factor for Sega Genesis / Mega Drive consoles;
• Premium physical packaging and printing;
• Exclusive print run aimed at physical media enthusiasts.
