Bethesda explains why Oblivion for Switch 2 is a remaster, not a remake

Bethesda has explained why The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for Nintendo Switch 2 should be considered a remaster, as the core of the game remains original.

Re-release of a classic for the new console

The announcement of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for Nintendo Switch 2 sparked much discussion among fans, particularly regarding the scale of the update for the cult RPG. Bethesda representatives decided to clarify the situation, noting that the game should be classified specifically as a remaster, rather than a full-fledged remake.

According to the developers, "calling it a remake would be disingenuous, as the main framework is still the original game." Although the visuals, textures, and performance have been significantly improved for the capabilities of the Switch successor, the base engine and game mechanics remained untouched.

What to expect from Oblivion on Switch 2?

  • Improved graphics and a more stable frame rate.
  • Preservation of the original gameplay and quests.
  • A fully portable experience for one of the most famous games of the past decade.

At the time, the debut trailer for the first Nintendo Switch impressed gamers by showing that it allowed playing Skyrim on an airplane with detached controllers. Now the story is taken to a new level with Oblivion on Switch 2, promising an equally exciting experience and nostalgia in a convenient format.
