The developers of the upcoming major re-release Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen shared interesting details about the development process. In an interview with the Japanese publication Famitsu, project director Kento Kinoshita, along with producers Naoto Oyama and Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, spoke about the significant difference in expectations between Western and Eastern players.
Two Opposing Views on the Game
According to the Capcom team, community feedback regarding the original version of the game turned out to be diametrically opposed:
- Players from Japan and Asia actively criticized elements they considered "inconveniences" — in particular, long travel on foot and the Dragonsplague mechanic.
- Players from Europe and North America, on the contrary, welcomed these mechanics as natural challenges and important elements of game immersion.
Finding the Perfect Balance
The developers noted that pleasing both camps was no easy task. However, the team assures that they found a middle ground: Dark Arisen will retain its signature hardcore spirit for those seeking a challenge, while simultaneously offering a more comfortable gaming experience without unnecessary routine.
The release of Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen on Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for October 9, 2026.
