The developers of Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World have shared a fresh batch of details about the upcoming JRPG. This time, the focus is on online activities with cross-play support, a classic battle arena, and a brand-new roguelike mode.
Joint Battles and Online Battles
As players progress through the story, they will unlock a full-fledged online hub. Key features include:
- Online Joint Battles: co-op battles where you can team up with wranglers from all over the world to challenge giant bosses. Combining healing and support skills activates a Team Bonus, which increases overall damage and skill effectiveness.
- Monster Eggs: rewards for joint challenges from which rare creatures of four different colors can be hatched.
- Ranked and Private Matches: a system with seven ranks (from Beginner to Legendary) featuring seasonal rewards. For fair competition, the special passive mechanic Wrangler’s Spirit is disabled in PvP.
- Wranglers Society and Online Shop: competitions against ghost teams of other players with a chance to spin a prize roulette, as well as a shop with an inventory that changes daily.
Witherwood Castle Battle Arena
For fans of offline content, there is the Battle Arena, unlocked by Bianca and Nera. It features solo and joint tournaments across seven weight categories (from Rank G to A), where your team's HP and MP are fully restored after each battle.
Wrangler’s Gauntlet: A Roguelike-Style Challenge
The main surprise was the new Wrangler’s Gauntlet mode, created by the character Scruffy. This is a true roguelike designed for high replayability:
- The player is given a random starting set of monsters to overcome 50 consecutive battles with.
- Monsters and items from this mode cannot be brought into the main game; however, after each victory, synthesis between your own creatures and the opponent's defeated monsters is unlocked.
- Earned Wrangler Points can be spent in the special Gauntlet Goods shop to purchase useful buffs and equipment for the current run.
