Recent weeks have turned out to be extremely eventful for fans of the iconic Kingdom Hearts series. Following the recent Disney D23 event, fans learned that the upcoming Kingdom Hearts IV will feature a world from the animated film "Coco", and also received an extended four-minute trailer. In addition, an official anime series, Kingdom Hearts: The Series, was announced for Disney+ and Disney Channel.
Anime Is Just the Beginning
As it turns out, Disney has much larger-scale plans for the crossover franchise from Square Enix. In an interview with 4Gamer, Walt Disney Japan Director of Games Nana Gadd shared a vision for the future of the series:
"Even though Kingdom Hearts has been around for nearly 25 years, we have so many things we want to bring to life. The announcement of the animated series is actually just the first step."
It appears that Disney and Square Enix intend to actively expand the Kingdom Hearts brand's presence in the media space — both within the gaming industry and beyond.
