A Fresh Take on Tactical RPGs from the Creator of Disgaea
The creator of the cult franchise Disgaea, Sohei Niikawa, shared details about his new project—the tactical strategy RPG Demons’ Night Fever, set to release on Nintendo Switch on October 22, 2026. In an interview with Inven Global, the developer explained in detail why the new title differs fundamentally from his past hits.
True Evil: Sacrifice Minions for Victory
While most classic SRPGs teach players to protect every ally, Demons’ Night Fever completely breaks these conventions. The game's core concept is the "enjoyment of evil":
- Minion Exploitation System: Villains have no loyal friends—only expendable material. The most effective tactic on the map is to sacrifice as many minions as possible, eliminate enemies, and remain the sole victor.
- Speedrun Instead of Endless Grind: Unlike Disgaea, where players spend hundreds of hours grinding massive stats, Demons’ Night Fever features a strict time limit to revive the Demon Lord. Hesitating with leveling up leads to a Game Over.
- Multifaceted Strategy: For rapid progression, players can steal items, kidnap new minions, clear procedurally generated dungeons, and develop abilities via a Sphere Grid-style skill board.
Demons’ Night Fever offers a blend of dark humor, rapid progression simulation, and tactical combat, subverting the usual rules of the tactical RPG genre.
