Throughout its history, Nintendo has collaborated with numerous global celebrities to promote its games and consoles. However, one of the most heartfelt and memorable collaborations will forever remain the participation of the prominent actor Robin Williams alongside his daughter Zelda in commercials for The Legend of Zelda series.
A Special Connection to Hyrule
Unlike typical advertising contracts, Robin Williams was a genuine fan of Nintendo video games. His love for Link's adventures was so deep that he and his wife named their own daughter after Princess Zelda. When Nintendo offered them the chance to star in promotional videos for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Skyward Sword, and Four Swords Anniversary Edition, it felt completely natural.
The Director's Memories from the Set
Julien Seri, the director of these commercials, shared memories of working with the legendary actor:
- Warm atmosphere: Williams spoke fluent French, was open, and jokingly called the director "Boss."
- Speed of filming: The first commercial was shot remarkably quickly—in about an hour and a half.
- Genuine chemistry: The spontaneity and natural bond between father and daughter filled the scenes with life, humor, and genuine emotions.
In total, the campaign was filmed over six days across six months in New York and San Francisco, accommodating the actor's busy schedule.
