Digital Foundry Tested the Metaphor: ReFantazio Demo for Switch 2

Digital Foundry tested the Metaphor: ReFantazio demo for Switch 2: excellent upscaling on par with PS5, but with unusual rendering bugs.

The Digital Foundry team has released a detailed technical breakdown of the recently released Metaphor: ReFantazio demo for the Nintendo Switch 2. The specialists assessed the graphics quality and performance of the highly anticipated RPG from ATLUS, whose release is scheduled for November 12, 2026.

Advantages and Strange Graphics Bugs

According to the experts' findings, the technical state of the demo demonstrates both significant positives and unexpected issues:

  • Modern upscaling: The use of TAA-based technologies (likely DLSS) on Switch 2 provides an even sharper image in some aspects than on the PS5.
  • Unusual resolution bug: When idle in docked mode, the game temporarily renders at a strange resolution of 2560x720 pixels. It is currently unknown whether this will be fixed before the final release.

What Does the Demo Offer?

Players can already download the game's prologue from the eShop, which includes the opening hours of the story:

  • The start of the journey to save the prince from a death curse.
  • The first four dungeons to explore.
  • The ability to unlock 7 of over 40 diverse archetypes (classes).
  • An introduction to six companions who will support the hero.

All achieved progress can be seamlessly transferred to the full version of the game upon its release.
