The LEGO Game Boy set has become another wonderful collaboration between Nintendo and the Danish toy manufacturer, paying homage to the classic handheld console. While the original build features lenticular screens that merely simulate gameplay, enthusiasts have managed to turn the decorative model into a full-fledged gaming console.
A Real Game Boy Made of LEGO Bricks
A detailed custom modification has surfaced online that allows authentic Game Boy internals to be housed inside the plastic LEGO casing. As a result, the console not only works but is also capable of running original cartridges:
- Full support for physical Game Boy cartridges;
- Functional control buttons made from LEGO bricks;
- A working screen instead of static decorative lenses.
Of course, playing on such a model might not be as ergonomic as on an authentic handheld, but the project looks incredibly impressive. Special component kits are available for those wishing to replicate the experiment, although the modification requires soldering skills and working in a very tight space.
