In late September, CD Projekt Red released an updated version of the legendary RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered for Nintendo Switch 2. This is a free update for all owners of the original Switch version, bringing significant graphical and gameplay improvements.
A Natural Step After Cyberpunk 2077
In an interview with RPG Site, CD Projekt Red representative Oleh Shatulo shared that creating a native version for Switch 2 was a "natural next step" after the successful port of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition to the new console.
According to the developers, the more powerful Switch 2 hardware opened up much more room for visual and technical improvements. Instead of a standard port, the studio decided to include the platform in a broader large-scale remaster initiative on par with other modern platforms.
What's New in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered?
- Improved graphics and performance: reworked textures, updated foliage, improved lighting, rendering, and ray tracing support.
- Reworked skill system: new ability balancing and an updated skill tree for deeper playstyle customization.
- Enhanced combat system: new animations, finishers, and an adaptive dynamic camera.
- Cross-platform mods: Mod.io integration allows installing user modifications directly on the console.
- Exclusive Switch 2 features: gyro and gesture support for aiming the crossbow, throwing bombs, and casting signs, touch control support for the UI and playing Gwent, as well as mouse controls.
The update includes not only the base game, but also both story expansions — "Hearts of Stone" and "Blood and Wine."
