The tradition of fighting game references continues
The Castlevania series is known not only for its gloomy gothic atmosphere, but also for the developers' long-standing love for classic fighting games. In many previous installments of the franchise, one could find combos, animations, and strikes referencing legendary games like Street Fighter or The King of Fighters. The fresh demo of the upcoming Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse proved that the creators are staying true to traditions.
Cestus, Ryu, and Akuma
Attentive fans explored the demo of the game, whose release on Nintendo Switch is scheduled for October 15, 2026, and discovered a secret weapon — Cestus knuckleduster gloves. After executing a series of rapid strikes, the main protagonist Rose finishes her combos with iconic fighting stances of famous fighters.
Among the discovered references, poses of the following characters were noticed:
- Ryu and Chun-Li from Street Fighter;
- Sagat, Oro, and Akuma;
- Mai Shiranui from Fatal Fury / The King of Fighters;
- Spider-Man from the Marvel vs. Capcom fighting games.
In addition, the aerial attack using the Cestus almost completely replicates Akuma's famous fiery strike — Zanku Hadouken. It seems that even more interesting surprises and easter eggs await fans in the full version of the game.
