Capcom Explains Why Mega Man: Dual Override Was Not Named Mega Man 12

Capcom explained why the new game in the Mega Man series was titled Dual Override instead of Mega Man 12.

New Title Instead of a Number

All mainline games in the Mega Man series have traditionally received a sequential number in their titles. The last numbered installment was Mega Man 11, so many fans expected the new project to be named Mega Man 12.

However, Capcom decided to name the game Mega Man: Dual Override, breaking with the numbering tradition. The outlet Nintendo Everything asked the developers about the reasons behind this decision.

Why That Is

According to Capcom, the new title better reflects the specifics of the project, which departs from the format of the classic numbered games in the series and offers a different approach to gameplay; therefore, the team decided to set it apart with a standalone title rather than continuing the sequential numbering.
