Studio The Retro Room Games has launched a Kickstarter pre-campaign to fund the physical release of Vasalius: Human Error — an original first-person action-RPG shooter created directly for the classic Nintendo 64 console.
Classic Horror Atmosphere and the Voice of Duke Nukem
One of the project's key highlights is its voice acting: Jon St. John, the legendary voice of Duke Nukem, joined the game's production, and his voice will play directly from the N64 hardware. Popular retro YouTuber John Riggs is also taking part in the project.
The game's plot is inspired by classic sci-fi horror: players arrive in a small town overrun by aliens, where every survivor could turn out to be a disguised enemy. Dynamic combat is combined with character stat progression, and dialogue choices affect story development and the ending.
Vasalius: Human Error Features:
- Full release on physical N64 cartridges with battery-backed save progress;
- Runs on the base version of the Nintendo 64 (4 MB) without requiring an Expansion Pak;
- 3D levels with 2D enemy sprites and 5 weapon types;
- Multiple endings depending on player choices;
- Complete absence of generative AI: hand-crafted pixel art and an original soundtrack.
The developers plan to raise $6,400 to begin production of authentic cartridges.
