Okami development secrets from Hideki Kamiya
Legendary game designer Hideki Kamiya, known for his work on series such as Resident Evil and Bayonetta, shared interesting details about the creation of the classic game Okami. Although the project's release took place back in 2006, the developer continues to reveal its secrets on his social networks.
What does Spider-Man have to do with it?
According to Kamiya, one of the most memorable scenes in Okami would never have come to light without the influence of the 2004 superhero movie "Spider-Man 2". He is referring to the famous scene from the film where Peter Parker uses his web to stop an out-of-control train.
This episode impressed one of the Okami developers so much that he decided to integrate a similar mechanic into the game. Thus, the following gameplay moment appeared:
- Amaterasu (the game's main character) has to help repair a bridge over a raging river.
- Suddenly, the current carries a huge log at breakneck speed.
- The player must use the power of magical vines (Vine power) to stop the log and save the situation before it falls down the waterfall.
This unexpected connection between cinema and video games proves once again that inspiration can come from anywhere!
