Stellar Blade Creator on Risks, Finding a Budget, and Working on Switch 2

The head of SHIFT UP shared the story behind the creation of Stellar Blade and discussed the efforts made to release the Complete Edition on Switch 2.

Studio SHIFT UP is preparing for the release of Stellar Blade Complete Edition for Switch 2, scheduled for November 5, 2026, with a demo of the project already available to everyone. In the game, you take on the role of elite warrior Eve, who travels to a devastated Earth to reclaim it from mysterious forces.

A Path Through Doubt and Lack of Funds

In a recent interview with Inven, Stellar Blade director and head of SHIFT UP Hyung-Tae Kim spoke about the game's challenging journey from a risky concept to a global hit. According to him, there was a critical moment during development when there was only three months' worth of payroll left for the team.

Investors and major publishers called the project too risky and suggested abandoning it in favor of other initiatives. However, the team believed in success, found a reliable partner, and saw it through to the end, which led to the game's commercial triumph.

The Switch 2 Version Is the Result of Hard Work

The success of the original release paved the way for a full edition on Switch 2. Hyung-Tae Kim emphasized that the development team gave it their all:

  • Full adaptation of the combat system and graphics for the new console;
  • Support for Joy-Con 2 controllers for motion controls during side activities;
  • All available enhancements and expansions included in the Complete Edition.

“The developers worked incredibly hard on the Switch 2 version. I can confidently say that this is a project that is definitely worth your attention,” concluded the head of SHIFT UP.
