Ghost Town Games, the studio that brought the world the popular culinary co-op Overcooked, is actively working on its new project — Stage Fright. The game is being prepared for release on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 in 2027. In an interview with Nintendo Life, studio founders Phil Duncan and Oli De-Vine discussed how the new title will differ from their previous hit.
More Story and a Focus on Two Players
Unlike the arcade chaos of Overcooked, designed for a group of up to four people, Stage Fright is being created exclusively for two players and offers a linear story adventure. At the same time, the key element — the need to constantly communicate — hasn't gone anywhere.
«We realized that Overcooked brought together both experienced gamers and newcomers. In Stage Fright, we aim to maintain this balance: even if one plays all the time and the other only occasionally, thanks to the importance of communication, both will feel on equal footing», Oli De-Vine explained.
Luigi's Mansion Influence and Game Length
The developers also confessed their love for the Luigi's Mansion series, whose visual style became one of the sources of inspiration for Stage Fright:
- Clarity without words: the game combines a spooky yet accessible atmosphere where everything is intuitively understandable without additional explanations;
- Playground: the creators aimed to create a space into which the most whimsical co-op mechanics could be added.
As for the length, the authors have not yet named an exact number of hours, but note that a full playthrough should take about a week of casual evening play.
