Release of disco-punk horror RetroSpace on Switch 2 postponed a day before launch

The release of the disco-punk horror RetroSpace on the Switch 2 console has been postponed a day before launch to improve optimization.

Publisher Kwalee and indie studio The Wild Gentlemen have announced an unexpected delay of the disco-punk cosmic horror RetroSpace on the next-generation Switch 2 console. The game was supposed to come out on October 1, 2026, but just a day before launch, the developers decided to postpone the release of the Switch 2 version indefinitely.

Why was the release postponed?

According to the development team, additional time is needed for optimization and polishing so that players on all platforms receive the highest quality gaming experience.

What is RetroSpace?

RetroSpace is an unusual cosmic immersive sim featuring humor, a 70s sci-fi atmosphere, and metroidvania elements. The protagonist is an ordinary janitor who becomes humanity's last hope aboard the Aurora-5 station, consumed by a sentient black hole.

Key features of the game include:

  • Playstyle freedom: the option to choose stealth or dynamic action, using traps, lighting manipulation, and security system hacking.
  • Mutamods™ mutations: body modifications that grant unique superpowers but come with unpredictable side effects.
  • Cloning and death system: each death creates a new clone whose items must be recovered from the previous body.
  • Retro-futurism aesthetic: low-poly graphics with the spirit of the psychedelic 60s–70s.

The developers promised to announce a new Switch 2 release date for RetroSpace soon.
