Indie developer Cupkisu Studios has presented the project Nightmere I—a hand-drawn detective RPG with psychological horror elements, which has every chance of coming to Nintendo Switch thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign.
A mysterious case in a strange town
The events of the game unfold in 1991. The main protagonist is Amelia, a young and exhausted private detective who arrives in the quiet provincial town of Nightmere in search of Sarah, a missing medical student. Exploring the area in an RPG format, players will communicate with townspeople, piece together evidence, and engage in confrontations where facts and logic serve as weapons, rather than mere force.
Lightning-fast success on Kickstarter
The fundraising campaign on the Kickstarter platform reached its base goal of 15,000 Canadian dollars in just three hours after launch. The campaign will run until October 27, and the developers have already outlined stretch goals. Among them are additional localizations, animated cutscenes, story expansion, and console ports, including releases for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox.
Key features of Nightmere I:
- Deep investigation: a town where every resident hides their own secrets.
- Meaningful choices: interrogations of characters and decisions that cannot be undone.
- Intellectual battles: overcoming suspects' lies using contradictions and evidence.
- Authentic 2D art: all graphics, sprites, and interface elements are hand-crafted by artists without the use of generative artificial intelligence.
