In 2022, a successful double crowdfunding campaign took place on Kickstarter for two ambitious Japanese role-playing games — Armed Fantasia and Penny Blood. However, recent sad news about the cancellation of Armed Fantasia made the community worry about the fate of the dark JRPG from Shadow Hearts series creator Matsuzo Machida.
The project is alive and moving forward
In response to a flurry of questions from concerned players, Matsuzo Machida published a statement on social media confirming that Penny Blood is fine and development continues. The studio is currently focused on finding a new publisher who will help bring the game to completion and release it to the market.
In parallel, the team is also working on a book titled Penny Blood: Reviolence, which is planned for future release.
A dark world and platforms
The events of Penny Blood unfold in the whirlwind of the turbulent 1920s, where players will have to investigate eerie crimes, struggle with their own traumas, and confront cosmic horror amid an atmosphere of global chaos. The journey will span the US, Europe, and Asia during the interwar period.
Back during the Kickstarter campaign, the authors promised a release on Nintendo family devices. Given the timeframe, the game could very well appear on both the original Switch and the Switch 2.
