Publisher Arc Games along with studio Thekla, Inc. have released a new gameplay trailer titled "Explore the Realm" for their ambitious puzzle game Order of the Sinking Star. The project is being developed under the direction of renowned game designer Jonathan Blow, creator of the cult hits Braid and The Witness.
A World of Non-Linear Secrets and Magic
In Order of the Sinking Star, players will enter a mysterious world featuring hundreds of hours of unique gameplay and over a thousand handcrafted puzzles. The project's main feature is a non-linear hub map (Overworld), opening up four distinct directions with unique heroes and mechanics:
- North (The Hearty Heroes of Hauling): the story of a fantasy team of movers (Warrior, Thief, Mage, Bard, Cleric, and Druid), where each hero possesses unique item manipulation abilities;
- East (The Mirror Isles): a Merchant's adventure across a picturesque archipelago, where magic mirrors swap the character and items with their reflections;
- West (The Promise): an underground expedition of an Explorer who manipulates colored light beams to activate superpowers;
- South (Skipping Stones to Lonely Homes): a Sailor's journey through islands by redirecting rivers and skipping stones across the water.
Merging Worlds via "Gold Rooms"
As they progress, players will encounter so-called "Gold Rooms." Solving them triggers a massive spatial shift: worlds begin to collide and merge, creating combined locations. In these areas, storylines and mechanics from different regions intertwine—such as using magic mirrors alongside light beams.
The release of Order of the Sinking Star on Switch 2 will take place on October 8, 2026.
