The developers of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, scheduled for release on Switch 2 on April 8, 2027, shared a new set of details following Tokyo Game Show and a series of interviews with project lead Naoki Hamaguchi.
Key Details and New Mechanics
- Automatic Leveling: The game will introduce an optional feature to automatically boost character levels to the story-recommended level. This will allow players to enjoy the story without unnecessary grinding.
- Huge Amount of Content: According to the developers, the game contains so much content that it is impossible to cover in a single playthrough. Chapter Select will unlock after completing the story.
- Vertical Open World: While Remake focused on the story and Rebirth opened up the world, Revelation adds noticeable verticality, creating a "spatial open world" through flights aboard the airship Highwind.
- Iconic Mini-Games: Snowboarding and the famous slapping showdown against Scarlet will be organically woven into the main storyline.
- Navigation Balance: The authors took into account media feedback regarding the excessive number of prompts in the predecessor's open world and are working on reducing excessive assistance to the player.
- Emphasis on Companions: Although the game remains Cloud's story, the developers paid tremendous attention to fleshing out each of his companions. The number of party members is currently being kept secret to avoid spoilers.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will serve as the finale to the grand trilogy, concluding the 30-year history of the iconic universe.
