Studio Pixel Reign has unveiled its ambitious project titled Moros Protocol. The game boldly combines the dynamics of classic retro shooters ("boomer shooters"), a roguelite structure, and intense boss battles in the spirit of souls-like games within a grim sci-fi setting.
Cosmic nightmare aboard the "Orpheus"
The plot hook throws the player into the unknown: you wake up on the abandoned military spaceship "Orpheus," drifting in deep space. With no memories of the past, the only thing driving you forward is a mysterious voice and the desire to survive. The ship is overrun with eerie creatures, and the corridors are constantly shifting. According to the developers, death here is not the end, but a necessary step to unlocking the vessel's secrets.
Gameplay features
Moros Protocol encourages adaptability and reaction speed. Among the project's key features:
- Variety of runs: a combination of handcrafted locations with procedural generation guarantees a unique experience every time;
- Flexible customization: an arsenal of weapons and augmentations found during playthroughs shapes your unique combat style;
- Classic action: the game even allows kicking enemies in the best traditions of retro shooters;
- Co-op mode: you can clear the dangerous ship together with a friend in a two-player online co-op.
Visually, the game uses a custom engine that mimics a low-poly aesthetic with textures in the style of late 90s and early 2000s shooters. Development of Moros Protocol has been underway for over five years. The exact list of platforms and the release date will be announced later.
