MELTY BLOOD: TWI-LUMINA to Feature New Battle Mechanics and a 20-Hour Campaign

MELTY BLOOD: TWI-LUMINA will be released on Switch and Switch 2 in 2027. The developers shared details about a new story mode written by Kinoko Nasu and fresh combat mechanics.

TYPE-MOON GAMES has revealed the first gameplay details of the upcoming fighting game MELTY BLOOD: TWI-LUMINA, scheduled for release on April 22, 2027, for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. At TGS 2026, journalists were able to try the game out firsthand and share interesting details regarding the combat system and story mode.

New Mechanics and Simplified Controls

The developers have significantly expanded the game's accessibility by introducing two control modes:

  • Act Mode: a simplified input mode where special attacks can be performed with a single button (dealing roughly 10% less damage). Three types of Rapid Beat auto-combos are available via the A, B, or C buttons.
  • Duel Mode: classic traditional controls for experienced fighting game players.
  • Lumina Gauge: replaces the Moon Gauge from the previous entry. It is displayed as stars. If the gauge fills completely and the player uses a special move, the character enters a "Break" state, taking increased damage.
  • Gauntlet Mechanic: a fast overhead attack with armor from the very start of execution, allowing players to seize the initiative or extend combos.

Massive Story Mode

MELTY BLOOD: TWI-LUMINA will offer a full-fledged Grand Scenario Mode written by universe creator Kinoko Nasu. The plot will revolve around Shiki Tohno in Souya City:

  • A blend of visual novel, pixel art, and adventure sections.
  • Around 20 hours of gameplay with battles dependent on player choices.
  • The return of fan-favorite characters, with Len confirmed among them.
