The recent release of Lies of P: Complete Edition on the next-generation Switch 2 console has attracted considerable attention from both critics and players. The grim soulslike based on the tale of Pinocchio received excellent optimization, and now the developers have shared details about porting the game to the new platform.
Impressive Power of the Handheld System
In a conversation with RPG Site, ROUND8 Studio (NOUGH) game director Jiwon Choi spoke about the challenges and pleasant surprises during the development of the port. Since work on the game took place at an early stage in the Switch 2's lifecycle, the team had to deal with a lack of documentation, but the development tools pleasantly surprised the creators:
- Performance: The Switch 2 demonstrates surprising power for a handheld system, and the Unreal Engine is well-tuned to work with it;
- Visual details: The developers spent a lot of time recreating the snow effects in the Lies of P: Overture expansion to preserve the full atmosphere of the original;
- Nintendo support: Clear instructions and documentation helped avoid unnecessary trial and error during porting.
A Physical Edition Without Compromises
The developers earned special appreciation from players because the physical version of the game contains the full content—both the base Lies of P and the Overture expansion—directly on the cartridge without the need for additional downloads.
According to Choi, the decision to release a full cartridge edition was made on day one: “Everyone in our studio is an avid gamer, so releasing the complete edition on physical media was a natural choice and a gift to the fans.”
