Kingdom Hearts IV Director Explains Why the World of "Coco" Is a Perfect Fit for the Game

Kingdom Hearts IV director Tetsuya Nomura explained why the world of the animated film "Coco" was a perfect fit for the new chapter of Sora's adventures.

Why the World of "Coco" Specifically Will Appear in Kingdom Hearts IV

Following the recent presentation at the Disney D23 event, the developers not only showed a 4-minute extended trailer for Kingdom Hearts IV, but also officially confirmed the appearance of the world from Disney and Pixar's popular animated film "Coco". Franchise director Tetsuya Nomura shared details on how this location was selected for the new chapter of Sora's adventures.

According to Nomura, the main criterion when adding new worlds is always their narrative synergy with the main character's personal journey:

“When I get the opportunity to decide which world we definitely need to include, I usually look at how harmoniously it interacts with the development of Sora's main story. Working on Kingdom Hearts 4 and reflecting on its key themes, we felt that the world of \"Coco\" in particular would best help achieve this goal.”

What Is Known About Kingdom Hearts IV

In the fourth numbered installment of the iconic series, players can expect new challenges and mechanics:

  • A new reality: Sora wakes up in an unusual modern metropolis called Quadratum, searching for a way home.
  • Searching for friends: Donald and Goofy venture to the Underworld, hoping to find clues regarding Sora's whereabouts.
  • Updated combat system: dynamic battles combine high-speed combos, magic, and the ability to switch Keyblades mid-battle to alter playstyles.
