Studios Saber Interactive and Boss Team Games are preparing for the release of the horror game Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival, scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 8, 2026. The developers shared new details regarding the involvement of franchise creator Clive Barker and the game's uncompromising mature content.
Blessing from the Franchise Creator
As narrative director Anthony De Fault told GameSpot in an interview, the game's connection with Clive Barker goes much deeper than merely using his name on the cover:
- Barker fully endorsed the team's vision after ensuring that the creators had a deep feel for the source material.
- The game's plot is a direct response to the novella "The Hellbound Heart" and the franchise's first two classic films.
- The developers aimed to capture the spirit of the '80s, adapting it to the modern gaming medium.
Without Censorship and Compromise
The "Hellraiser" franchise has always stood out for its provocative themes, shocking violence, and explicit body horror. The team assures that they have no intention of cutting corners for ratings:
“We knew what Hellraiser had to be. We understood how disappointed fans would be by any compromises. All the creepy and depraved elements were added deliberately—not just for cheap shock value, but to create a sense of true, profound discomfort,” De Fault noted.
At the center of the plot is the protagonist, Aidan, who must use the mysterious puzzle box "Genesis Configuration" to rescue his girlfriend, Sunny, from the otherworldly Labyrinth.
