Final Fantasy VII remake series director Naoki Hamaguchi spoke about the importance of the original game to the development team and shared the status of planned story DLCs for the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Revelation, which is expected to release on Nintendo Switch 2 and other platforms on April 8, 2027.

The Original Remains at the Heart of the Vision

In recent interviews and on social media, Hamaguchi emphasized that the classic 1997 version remains an unwavering benchmark for the remake trilogy. According to him, the entire plot and narrative of the original are carefully preserved and integrated into the new version of the game world.

What Is Known About the Story DLCs?

Earlier, it was revealed that two story expansions are planned following the game's release: Story DLC 1: Sephiroth and Story DLC 2: Vincent & the Turks, scheduled to appear between winter 2027 and spring 2028. However, there are no exact details about them yet.

Hamaguchi noted:

  • The decision to create these two story DLCs was made very recently;
