Escape the Backrooms Celebrates 4th Anniversary with a New Free Level on Switch 2

Co-op horror Escape the Backrooms celebrates its 4th anniversary with the release of the free Level 421, available on Switch 2.

Publisher Secret Mode has announced the release of a free update for the popular co-op horror Escape the Backrooms in honor of the game's fourth anniversary since its first appearance in Early Access. The update is now available on all consoles, including Switch 2.

What's New in Level 421?

The new location is called Level 421 (or Plastic Mariana). It is an abandoned M.E.G. outpost connected to a children's hospital. Players will face new horrors and challenges:

  • Avoid patrolling Scratchers monsters in dark claustrophobic corridors.
  • Noclip into an endless ball pit inhabited by a dangerous shark creature.
  • Solve puzzles and find the path to the next zone — Overgrowth.

Game's Success on Consoles

Following its console release, the game has already attracted over 5 million players. Escape the Backrooms offers cooperative exploration of over 30 eerie levels for 1–4 players, where every mistake can cost a life.
