New Double Fine Project Raises Half a Million Dollars on Kickstarter

Double Fine studio has raised over $500,000 on Kickstarter for a new game following its return to indie team status.

Double Fine's Return to Independent Roots

Following restructuring and its departure from Xbox Game Studios, Double Fine Productions, led by Tim Schafer, has returned to independent indie team status. In late summer, the developers announced the return of the legendary Amnesia Fortnight format — an internal game jam designed to result in the creation of a new full-fledged game and a documentary.

Success on Kickstarter and Controversy Surrounding the Project

The fundraising campaign on the Kickstarter platform got off to an excellent start, raising over $500,000 from dedicated fans of Double Fine's work. However, the project soon found itself at the center of heated online discussions due to the participation of actress Erika Ishii.

  • Double Fine is once again operating as an independent indie developer;
  • The Amnesia Fortnight project is aimed at finding an idea for the studio's next game;
  • The campaign raised half a million dollars before the end of the fundraiser.
