The miraculous revival of the iconic franchise
Crazy Taxi: World Tour, a brand-new installment in SEGA's legendary arcade racing series, is gearing up for release on the Switch 2 console in 2027. In this wild adventure, players alongside the famous cab driver Axel will chase down mysterious masked criminals who stole his beloved car, all while completing extreme missions around the world.
How the stars aligned to create the game
The project's creative producer, Kenji Kanno, shared details in an interview with Automaton-Media about how development began. According to him, rebooting the series was made possible only through an incredible coincidence of circumstances:
- Kanno's vision for the new Crazy Taxi took shape at the same time as management's initiative to revive the franchise.
- This aligned with SEGA's global strategy to create new games based on classic IPs.
- An internal company reorganization helped quickly assemble a team of specialists.
New blood under a veteran's supervision
Kenji Kanno and game director Yo Momotani noted that almost none of the current development team worked on previous installments, as the last numbered entry in the series — Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller — was released back in 2002. However, Kanno himself, who has worked on every installment of the series from the very beginning, is leading the process, so fans can rest assured that the classic spirit of crazy taxi driving will be preserved.
