Return to Isle Delfino: Which Version Is Better?
The release of Super Mario Sunshine on the Nintendo Switch Online service for the new Switch 2 console has become a great opportunity for players to once again immerse themselves in Mario's sunny adventures. Today, this is the only legal way to purchase and play the game on current consoles if you didn't manage to get the limited Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection before it was discontinued.
However, there are a number of noticeable technical and visual differences between these two versions for Nintendo platforms:
- Emulation and authenticity: The Nintendo Switch Online version runs via a new GameCube emulator for Switch 2, preserving the original physics behavior and interface of the classic console.
- Controls and controller support: In the 3D All-Stars version, the controls for the F.L.U.D.D. water cannon were specially adapted for modern Switch buttons, whereas NSO supports official GameCube controllers with analog triggers.
- Resolution and visual improvements: Both versions offer widescreen display and enhanced graphics, but the Switch 2 version demonstrates a more stable framerate and improved rendering clarity.
Regardless of the chosen version, Super Mario Sunshine remains one of the brightest and most unique 3D Mario adventures in Nintendo history.
